LQTQ for Script Writing

LQTQ = Lead → Quote → Transition → Quote

This format helps you:

  • Tell a clear, focused story
  • Balance narration with interviews
  • Sound natural and professional on camera

Lead

  • Your opening line (REPORTER VO)
  • Introduces the story
  • Hooks the viewer
  • Notes:
    • Keep it 1–2 sentences
    • Write like you talk

Quote

  • First interview clip (SOT)
  • Adds emotion, opinion, or key detail
  • Notes:
    • Strong + interesting
    • 7–12 seconds

Transition

  • Reporter narration again (VO)
  • Moves the story forward
  • Adds NEW info
  • Notes:
    • Do NOT repeat the quote 
    • Keep it clear and short

Quote

  • Second interview clip (SOT)
  • Adds a new voice or new info
  • Builds on the story
  • Can be a different person
